What do you give to someone you love more than anything when you do not have anything good to give? You get perverse. You sever your own ear and send it wrapped inside a handkerchief.
Of course they won't appreciate this piece of uncalled-for theatrics. But you do it anyway, because here's a knife, and here's your ear, which doesn't serve an explicit bodily function. You do it because you can.
And perhaps you are caught up in this sense of urgency, the sudden, real realization that this is your world, and this is your actions, and this is the future, and then, there comes death.
You just got to do something – draw great-big circles in the field, haul giant-ass rocks and place them standing together.
